Dear Future SWS Family,
Maybe you've heard about the traditions and rich history of St. William the Abbot School, St. William the Abbot School, or the faith-filled Catholic environment in which our students are immersed, or the reputation for excellence SWS enjoys among Long Island schools, or the talented, dedicated, and loving SWS faculty, or our friendly and welcoming students, but no matter the reason you have visited with us today, we are grateful for your interest and happy to share our story!
For 66 years and counting, St. William the Abbot School has served students and families from Seaford, Massapequa, Wantagh, Bellmore, Merrick, Baldwin, Amityville, Copiague, Lindenhurst, and beyond. SWS is a thriving N-8 Catholic school with a population of 460 students. We are thankful for the collaborative effort that has resulted in our students being present for in-person learning each and every day of the school year, providing them with myriad opportunities for growth in faith and academics, as well as social and emotional support during challenging times.
We offer a rigorous academic program, including daily Religious instruction in grades N-8, Regents courses in both Math and Science in grade 8, Fundations instruction in grades K-2, F&P Benchmarking, iReady Math and ELA instruction in grades K-8, AIS, and grades K-8 STREAM instruction in our state-of-the-art Monsignor Robert L. Hayden Innovation Center and Makerspace.
St. William the Abbot School is a technological leader among schools, with a 1:1 Chromebook program for all students in grades K-8, Newline Boards in every classroom, and class sets of iPads in Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten. We have taken the next step in online learning with the implementation of Schoology, a learning management system that facilitates collaboration between students, teachers, and parents.
SWS electives include Music, Art, Computer Science, and Physical Education. In addition, we offer Fall and Spring Afterschool Enrichment Clubs for students in grades K-8. Our very affordable Extended Care Program provides peace of mind for working parents and is centered around prayer, play, and academic assistance.
All of us at SWS look forward to learning about your family as you consider joining the St. William the Abbot School family!
Peace,
Mrs. Elizabeth Bricker, Principal

Culture – Our school cultivates a robustly Catholic Culture centered on the spiritual, intellectual, sacramental, and liturgical life of the Church.
Supportive Community – Our school provides a safe and supportive community that recognizes the dignity of every student and promotes human flourishing in a familial atmosphere.
Academic Excellence – Our school offers academic excellence, which will foster in your child individual growth and development according to time-tested, faith-based models of teaching and learning.
Technology – During the lockdown of 2020-2021, we quickly provided tools for remote learning, including Chromebooks and iPads to many of our students. When students at other schools struggled, the students at our school excelled.
Servant Leadership – In 2020-2021, our teachers believed students and families were their #1 priority making sure each student received classwork and support in the most challenging of circumstances. Now, they continue to make students and families their #1 priority.
Safe Classroom Learning – We all know that young students learn better in a classroom with their peers. We have an impressive student-to-teacher ratio and spacious classrooms. This allowed us to bring back all students for full 5-day in-person learning for the 2020-2021 school year when most schools in Long Island remained closed. For the 2021-2022 school year, our students continue to track academic progress.
