Dear K-2 Families,

May is here and our class will be together for only a few short weeks.  I truly wish I could keep this class...it has been a wonderful year! We still have lots of fun and lots of learning to look forward to, but time is passing so fast! Soon, you will have big first graders on your hands!

Our baby chicks have hatched and we have four little cuties in our room. We decided to keep them a few more days because we are enjoying them so much. Your children have been amazing and have shared this experience with the entire school. They love to share their knowledge and excitement. I truly hope this is something your kinder will always remember! :)

We are preparing for many fun upcoming events. Our walking trip to the Seaford Library is coming up next week, and we are busy practicing for our special "Tea with Me." The children are excited to show you how much they love you with this special event! Love is also in the air in Kindergarten!  The letters Q and U, who are always together, will be getting married! We will hold a wedding officiated by Mrs. Bricker and have an actual wedding and reception with cake and apple juice (in champagne glasses!) We will then head off to White Post Farms the following day for our field trip!

We are learning about plants right now and are kicking off this unit by reading Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. We will be busy with some fun planting activities including Hairy Harry, whose grass hair can be cut over and over! We are re-using plastic soda bottles for this project in order to show how things can be re-purposed and used in a different way that is also good for the Earth. Other close reads this month will be Enemy Pie and The Watermelon Seed.  We will definitely enjoy some watermelon as a snack, as well!  We will also be learning about ocean creatures and dinosaurs as we get ready to celebrate the special men in our life with our Donuts, Dinosaurs and Dudes event on June 6th.

Since May is the month we honor our Blessed Mother, I wanted to share what St. Teresa of Calcutta said in order to remind us that Mary is always there for us..."If you ever feel distressed during your day--call upon our Lady--just say this simple prayer, 'Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to be now.'" I thought this was so lovely as we all need that sometimes, don't we?

As always, we are busy, busy, busy in Kindergarten...but always laughing and having fun while we learn!

Love,
Mrs. Hayes
