Dear K-2 Families,

Here we are, marching into MARCH! The school year is flying!

We kicked off this month with all things Dr. Seuss! We enjoyed lots of Dr. Seuss's zany, rhyming books. The children enjoyed seeing their teacher dress as Thing with my crazy blue hair, while Mrs. Diodati donned the Cat in Hat stovepipe hat. We popped and enjoyed popcorn while we read  Hop on Pop and enjoyed a delicious green eggs and ham breakfast! We had to do some convincing on the green eggs this year! Last year, every last bit was gone! :)

We are anxiously awaiting a visit from our classroom leprechaun as the children know I have written a letter and mailed it to Ireland asking for a wee little man to visit us! Little do the children know that Silly McGilly will be joining us on Monday! They will have a fun week seeing his antics in our classroom.  We will be enjoying a close read of Jamie O'Rourke and the Giant Pototo, as well as other fun St. Patty's Day books. We will learn about St. Patrick and celebrate his feast day with a celebration filled with green treats.  We will also learn about St. Joseph this month!

The children did a beautiful job receiving their ashes on Ash Wednesday, and we are learning a special song about Lent that we are singing each day. A special home-school Lenten project has been sent home, and children are being encouraged to do extra kind things around the house. When they complete a kind act, they may color in a piece on a stained glass window. By Easter, our windows will look so lovely!

We will be enjoying our second author study this month, as well.  We will be reading books by Mo Willems.  These books are some of the most fun to read in Kinder! The children love the crazy pigeon! We will then go on our second field trip to see a Mo Willems play based on the characters Elephant and Piggie.  We are very excited for this trip!

We will end this month with a study on the frog life cycle.  This will begin our science unit on life cycles.  Soon it will be time to go to the farm and put the chicken eggs in our incubator! Before we know it, our little chicks will hatch and spring will finally have sprung!

As always, lots of love and learning in K-2!
Love,
Mrs. Hayes
